Madrid will show off its enormous cultural potential with the 38th edition of Veranos de la Villa. The city's most important summer festival will retain its former glory, returning to over twenty venues across Madrid, as well as to its streets, with the best examples of artistic expression in music, the performing arts, circus, art and poetry. The extensive, carefully designed programme features more than 70 national and international artists from around the globe, from Uruguay to Switzerland to India, Canada, Japan, Cuba, Peru, Morocco and South Korea. Half of the activities in this unbeatable array of diverse, interactive and accessible offerings are free of charge. The festival kicks off on 5 July with Lúmen · uma história de amor, an outdoor show starring two giant articulated figures that will wander around the heart of the city, and ends on 28 August with a performance of Carmina Burana by the Spanish National Orchestra and Choir in a very special setting: the area by the lake in El Retiro Park, which is presided over by a monument honouring Alfonso XII created by Benlliure. The festival poster, which was illustrated by Borja Bonafuente and is a tribute to artist Ouka Leele, is a modern version of the iconic poster that Leele created for the 1996 edition of Veranos de la Villa. |
