Madrid International Festival of Light |
For the first time ever, some of the most emblematic places in the city of Madrid will welcome art and creativity with interventions by renowned Spanish creators and international artists from France, Canada, Finland and Australia, tracing a unique map of light throughout the capital. Over the course of three days, from 29 to 31 October (8pm to midnight), LuzMadrid will light up the city with more than twenty works of art. Using video, light installations, artificial intelligence, movement, and projection mapping, this unique, free experience open to all comprises an exclusive tour of city landmarks such as the Cibeles Palace, the Puerta de Alcalá gate, El Retiro Park, the Prado Museum, the Metrópolis Building, Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, and the Royal Palace. In line with the event’s commitment to sustainability, there will also be an outreach event at the Serrería Belga Cultural Space with a focus on light in the city. Thanks to this initiative, Madrid will secure its place in the international network of festivals of light. |

Acknowledgement of the tourism sector in 2021 |
On 27 September, coinciding with World Tourism Day, the Madrid City Council thanked the city’s tourism industry for their effort and dedication to the capital in an event that recognised 14 companies, institutions and professionals from the sector. |

Illustrated Cultural Map of Alatriste’s Madrid |
The character created by writer and journalist Arturo Pérez Reverte is the protagonist of the newest illustrated map by the Madrid City Council’s Department of Sport, Tourism and Culture. This free guide, which features illustrations by Raúl Arias, invites you to explore the Madrid in the time of Captain Alatriste times marking 25 years since the book’s publication. Follow in Alatriste’s footsteps as you discover 15 sights around the city, including the Santa Cruz Palace, the Corral del Príncipe, the House of the Seven Chimneys, and the Alcázar Royal Palace. |
Madrid, among the 20 best cities in the world in 2021 according to Time Out |
More than 27,000 people voted in the Time Out Index 2021, the magazine’s annual list of the best cities in the world. The capital was ranked in 18th place and stood out as the second-best in the world for its cultural offering. This recognition of the capital’s exclusive cultural scene includes the recent addition of the Landscape of Light as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. |

Madrid welcomes the latest edition of this contemporary art fair, now a leading event in the sector. With the creation, promotion and awareness of the art market at its heart, the fair boasts the collaboration of more than 80 galleries around the world for this 29th edition.
